US election: Juncker and Tusk (EU) invite Trump to Brussels. “Strengthening bridges across the Atlantic”

(Brussels) “The strategic partnership between the European Union and the United States is deeply rooted in our shared values of freedom, human rights, democracy, and in our supporting a market economy. Over the years, the European Union and the United States have joined forces to give peace and prosperity to our citizens and to people all over the world”. This was stated by Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk, president of the EU Commission and president of the European Council, respectively, as they sent their “sincere congratulations” to the new US president, Donald Trump. The two leaders mention the need to “strengthen transatlantic relationships” and cooperation in the global challenges, including, they aptly mention, Isis, “threats to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, “climate change and migration”. “Luckily, the partnership between the EU and the USA is wide and deep” even in countless other matters, such as the TTIP. “We must strengthen the bridges we have built across the Atlantic. The Europeans confide that the USA, the democratic ideals of which have always been a beacon of all over the world, will keep investing in its partnerships with its friends and allies” to help make the planet “safer and more prosperous”. Juncker and Tusk then invited Trump to visit Europe, so as to strengthen “dialogue for the coming years”.
