Attack on church in France: Hollande, “Catholics stricken, and with them, all the French”

“Catholics have been stricken, and with them, all the French”: President of the French Republic François Hollande, has just spoken in relation to the attack in a church near Rouen, Normandy, where a priest was killed and three people were wounded. “We are facing a new challenge – said Hollande, clearly agitated – and an imminent threat. Daesh declared war on us, and we shall fight it respecting rights, because we are a democratic country”. Hollande recalled the killed priest, and expressed the condolences of the nation to the Catholic community in France; then, he said he would meet the local bishop today, while tomorrow he will meet the representatives of all religious communities in the country. Then, he said: “We must be united, being aware that terrorists won’t stop before anything, until we stop them”. The President recalled that “France is under attack as well as Germany, for instance”, finally pointing out the need for “cohesion” of European countries, against Daesh terrorism.
