(Brussels) “The need to protect the transatlantic relationship will not justify any act that goes against the European values and interests as in the case of the invasion of Iraq in 2003”, and, in addition, “the EU shall avoid any over-militarisation of its security policy” and shall keep instead using its “civilian tools, especially economic ones, its preventive strategy, the involvement in the joint security mechanisms of the United Nations or OSCE”. According to Michel Drain (French Institute for International Relationships), these are the traps that should be avoided within the EU Global Strategy and Common Action programme for security and defence that it describes in the April issue of Europeinfos, the monthly magazine of the Commission of EU Bishops Conferences (Comece). It is up to Michael Kuhn to present the “Consultation on modernisation and simplification of the common agricultural policy (CAP)” launched by the European Commission to start the CAP review process in the light of new problems, such as increasingly uncertain agricultural markets, protection of agriculture as part of the new trade agreements, climate goals.
