EU Parliament: Brexit, migration from Libya, March 8th, and preparations for the plenary meeting in Strasbourg, on the agenda

(Brussels) Once again, Brexit is at the top of the EU institutions’ agenda. On Wednesday March 7th, the Conference of presidents of political groups at the European Parliament will submit a draft resolution as part of the future relations between the EU and the UK, which will be voted on by the EU Parliament during its plenary session in Strasbourg next week. Today, instead, delegates of the UNCHR working in Libya, “a country crossed by most migrants and asylum seekers heading for the EU”, as stated in a notice by the European Parliament, will discuss with the Commission on Civil Rights, the Commission for Foreign Affairs and the delegation for relations with Maghreb countries about the situation of migrants in detention centres. From today to Friday, a delegation of MEPs will go to Sierra Leone to watch over the election on March 7th. To coincide with International Women’s Day, the MEPs and MPs will meet on Thursday, March 8th, for the conference “Empowering women and girls in media and ICT: key for the future”. Guest speakers will include Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, president of the commission for women’s rights and gender equality, and Věra Jourová, European commissioner for gender equality. During the week, the political parties will get ready for thenplenary session of March 12th – 15th: items on the agenda will include Brexit, budget, coordination of economic policies and common corporate tax base.
