"Called Beyond"

England and Wales: Bishops’ Conference, “Called Beyond” project. Bring vocation back to parishes

“Called Beyond” is a project developed by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales to bring the culture of vocation back to parishes by helping them to answer Pope Francis’ call, who has chosen young people and their Christian vocation as the theme for the 2018 Synod dedicated to the faith and vocational discernment. “The initiative will be officially launched next year”, Sister Elaine Penrice, of the Daughters of St Paul, told SIR news agency. She is among those in charge of the Office for Vocation of the Catholic Church in the UK and is also responsible for this initiative. “A website is already up and running, calledbeyond.org.uk, with a lot of material and several videos”, sister Elaine explained. “We offer interesting training days to parishes that can be attended by two lay representatives who will then identify those who are interested in forming a group committed to bringing ‘Called Beyond’ to the faithful”. According to the nun, “the most important goal for the Bishops” is to “dissuade people from the idea that the word ‘vocation’ means being called to become a priest or a nun and restore the concept to its true meaning, which is an invitation by God to bear witness to our faith in Jesus. And also explaining that Christian life is not just marriage but also the vocation of those who are not married or those who are drawn to a specific profession”.
