Czech Republic: five workshops on affordable housing to be held in regions of Bohemia and Moravia

(Bratislava) – A series of lectures and workshops on affordable living will be held in five Czech and Moravian towns – Pilsen, Pardubice, Prague, Brno and Olomouc – until November, starting in Pilsen on 27 September 2017. The one-day events are dedicated mainly to professionals working in the social sector and non-governmental organizations dealing with people in need, including those run by the Church, but registration is also open to the public. “Accommodation prices in towns with a wide range of job offers have been growing rapidly; apartments and houses sell for astronomic prices and the offer of affordable accommodation is very poor, which represents a serious problem for lower and middle income households in society”, explain the representatives of the Agency for Affordable Housing in the Czech Republic, which launched the project. Identifying the instruments to improve this situation and help people find dignified and suitable shelter represents one of the biggest challenges to the Czech social system. The organizers of this series of regional workshops hope that raising awareness first among professionals and then among lay people might effectively contribute to solving this problem.
