“The legacy of the Reformation in the context of the dialogue between Christian denominations”: this will be the focus of a meeting in Moscow, on 13 October, that will bring together keynote speakers for an International Conference in memory of Father Alexander Men, the Orthodox priest killed in 1990 who “did a lot for the spiritual education of Russian society, the development of inter-Christian dialogue, and the strengthening of national and international bonds”. Sponsoring the event is the Rudomino State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow in cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Russian Federation and the Sts Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute for Postgraduate Studies in Moscow. The Lutheran Bishop Wolfgang Huber will be the guest of honour. He will open the Conference with a speech on “man in the likeness of God: human dignity and religious education”. Numerous topics will be addressed in two parallel workshops starting with “the traditions of European culture in the Orthodox experience of Father Alexander Men”. Discussion will also focus on Calvinism and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and on “Christianity in the face of terrorism”. In the context of the Conference, an exhibition staged by the German Embassy and dedicated to the history of the Reformation in Europe will also be unveiled.
