Church and social networks
Since yesterday and until Sunday, Moscow has been hosting the second workshop for Russian diocesan and parish media directors. It is attended by 34 people from 14 Russian cities. The meeting is focussed on the “presence of believers and Catholic Church structures on the social networks”. It will be opened by a Mass and by archbishop Paolo Pezzi’s speech: “Of course, people do not develop with the help of technology alone”, the bishop said, “but for us it is important to be there, trying to create a space for meeting real people; a space that goes beyond the social networks but runs through the social networks”. Unlike many other media, social networks are not only an instrument, they are a space in which people live and share experiences, overcoming distance and barriers. Mgr. Pezzi also pointed out that the words of social networks, “like, share, follow”, are also the Christians’ words. The workshop will address the problems of the “presence of the structures of the Catholic Church” on social networks, editorial planning, the “Christian testimony through specific forms of information”. Guest speakers will include the vicar general, father Kirill Gorbunov, and the news director, fr. George Kromkin. The first workshop took place in 2015. It is supported by the Aid to the Church in Need foundation.
