Triduum
Saying Holy Week in Spain means speaking of “347 religious events” taking place in the Iberian peninsula these days, some of which of “interest for international tourism”. The website of the Spanish Bishops Conference posted a video to show “four suggestions” for Holy Week. Actually, the country’s religious tradition includes events such as the “transfer of Christ of the Good Death” in Malaga, “Madrugá” in Seville, or else the “procesion de los Salzillos” in Murcia with 4,0000 people in costumes, the Nazarenes, who for several hours the morning of Good Friday will be carrying on their shoulders the nine big sculptures by Francisco Salzillo that show the last moments in Christ’s life. “3,400 confraternities are registered as religious associations”, the video goes on to explain, and the “economic impact of these religious celebrations in Spain is 9.8 million euros”. Many of these celebrations will be broadcast live by the TV channels Cope, Trece and Tv2, during the days of the Triduum.
