“From now on, we won’t post any more statements or give interviews”. This is Thomas Evans, little Alfie’s father, who posted a statement on social media last night “on his and Kate’s behalf”, asking to let them and the Hospital “build a relationship, a bridge, and cross it”. “Our lives have been disrupted by intense attention on Alfie and his situation”, reads the short text, the photo of which is posted on the “Alfie’s Army” profile, and “we did not live our lives the way we would have liked”. They express their “gratitude” for all the support received from everywhere in the world and also thank the Adler Hey staff for “their dignity and professional attitude, at a time that must have been awfully difficult for them as well”. “We are both aware of the pressure that recent events have put on us all, and now we want privacy for all the people concerned”, Alfie’s parents write on. “In Alfie’s interest, we will work with the team who are treating him to outline a plan that may give our child the dignity and help he needs”. The photo of the message is accompanied by a few words of Thomas Evans, who explains that, “if this is the way to bring our child home, then please respect us. Keep supporting us, but do not protest and do not threaten the staff”.
