The autumn session of the Italian Bishops’ Permanent Council will take place from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 September 2018 in Rome (Circonvallazione Aurelia 50), the National Office for Social Communications of the CEI announced today. The work – introduced by Cardinal President Gualtiero Bassetti – will include an exchange of views on the Extraordinary General Assembly (Rome, 12-15 November 2018) dedicated to an assessment and examination of prospects for the Council’s liturgical reform in Italy, the approval of the new edition of the Roman Missal, and an update by the CEI Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults. Next week, the Council will discuss the relationship between faith and culture in light of “Matera 2019 – European Capital of Culture” and the set-up of a Scientific Committee to prepare the Reflection and Spirituality Meeting for Peace in the Mediterranean. The CEI Presidency will also submit a proposal to the members of the Permanent Council for the nomination of a new bishop who will succeed Nunzio Galantino as Secretary General, which will then be submitted to the Holy Father. On Thursday, 27 September, at noon, the Cardinal President will present the final statement at a press conference in the Marconi Hall of the Palazzo Pio (Piazza Pia, 3).
